About This Place

Nestled alongside the tranquil waters of Halsham, the Halsham Waterside Cafe & Farm Shop is a true Yorkshire gem that invites visitors to savor both the flavors of the region and breathtaking lakeside views. This charming cafe combines the warmth of homemade cooking with a welcoming atmosphere, making it a perfect retreat for locals and travelers seeking a peaceful spot to unwind and indulge in quality fare.

The menu delights with hearty, comforting dishes that echo traditional British cuisine elevated by fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Among the standout offerings is the much-praised Steak & Real Ale Pie, a robust, savory pie brimming with tender, slow-cooked steak enveloped in a rich ale-infused gravy and encased in perfectly flaky pastry. If lighter fare is preferred, the Quiche offers a creamy, delicate balance of eggs and fillings, while the Jacket Potato with Tuna and Sweetcorn delivers a simple yet satisfying combination that bursts with fresh flavors. For those seeking a cozy, shared moment, the Tea for 2 serves as a leisurely interlude, accompanied beautifully by the likes of a warm Ham and Cheese Panini—toasted to golden perfection with melted cheese and delicate ham.

Visitors repeatedly highlight the cafe’s inviting atmosphere, where every detail speaks of thoughtful hospitality. The friendly, attentive staff make you feel instantly at home, adding a personal touch that enhances the dining experience. Tracy Nightingale perfectly sums up this sentiment: “This little quiet corner of Yorkshire has a wonderful secret… staff are amazing and so friendly and overlooking the lake there is a beautiful view.” The peaceful setting by the water creates a serene backdrop, turning even a simple meal into a refreshing escape.

Beyond exquisite food, Halsham Waterside Cafe & Farm Shop is also a treasure trove for those interested in local produce. Phillip Kirwan recalls his visit fondly, praising not just the “first class service” but also the “terrific farm shop with a great range of local produce” that prompted him to bring home a boxful of Yorkshire’s best offerings. This dual experience of farm-to-table dining and authentic shopping embodies the deep connection to the local community and landscape.

Whether you’re stopping by for a robust lunch, a comforting snack, or a leisurely coffee paired with a scenic stroll around the lake and nearby landmarks, Halsham Waterside Cafe & Farm Shop delivers a heartfelt and genuine experience. It’s a place where every visit feels like a warm embrace and every bite tells a story of Yorkshire’s rich culinary heritage.

Popped in while in the area ( rented cottage in Ottringham). Coffee and bacon/egg sandwich. Had dog with us so used shelter outside. No heating but out of the rain. Pleasant staff who told us about local attraction ,Constable Mausoleum. Parked car , walked around the ponds with dog and up to Mausoleum and All Saints Church. Pleasant couple of hours spent.

Fantastic place for fresh fruit and vegetables, cooked meals and a range of other healthy and even less healthy delights. Excellent cafe with a range of delicious food and hot/cold drinks. Lovely views of the lake with a resident Kingfisher and Barn Owl for wildlife watching!
